Palworld Breeding Guide: Best Combos, Cake Setup, & Mechanics

Breeding in Palworld allows you to obtain late-game combat mounts and Level 4 base workers long before you can catch them in the wild. By combining specific male and female parent species, you can bypass high-level sector gates and breed S-tier Pals early in your playthrough.

Here is how the breeding system actually works, what items you need, and the best combos to kickstart your base.

The Breeding Setup: Requirements & Cake

Breeding cannot start until you unlock and build the Breeding Farm at Technology Level 19.

To produce a Pal Egg, you must place one male and one female Pal inside the Breeding Farm enclosure and supply at least 1x Cake in the wooden chest attached to the fence.

Cake Recipe (Baked at a Cooking Pot or Electric Kitchen):

  • 5x Flour (Wheat + Mill)
  • 8x Red Berries (Berry Plantation)
  • 7x Milk (Mozzarina assigned to a Ranch)
  • 8x Eggs (Chikipi assigned to a Ranch)
  • 2x Honey (Beegarde assigned to a Ranch)

If the chest lacks Cake, the parent Pals will remain in the farm indefinitely without producing an egg.

How Palworld Breeding Logic Works

Unlike games where offspring inherit a random mix of physical species traits, Palworld determines the child species using a hidden mathematical constant called Breeding Power:

$$\text{Offspring Power} = \left\lfloor \frac{\text{Parent 1 Power} + \text{Parent 2 Power} + 1}{2} \right\rfloor$$

Crossing two different species averages their power values to hatch a specific third species. However, certain unique breeding pairs override this math to produce fixed special outcomes regardless of power numbers.

Essential Early & Mid-Game Breeding Combos

Breeding allows you to skip high-level combat encounters and hatch powerful base workers at Level 1.

Target Pal Parent 1 Parent 2 Primary Base / Combat Utility
Anubis Penking Bushi Level 4 Handiwork & Level 3 Mining ``
Grizzbolt Mossanda Rayhound Level 3 Generating Electricity & Heavy Combat Mount ``
Lyleen Mossanda Petallia Level 4 Planting & Top Base Doctor
Orserk Grizzbolt Relaxaurus Level 4 Generating Electricity ``
Jormuntide Grizzbolt Relaxaurus [VERIFY: Confirm if Grizzbolt + Relaxaurus yields Orserk or Jormuntide in current patch] Level 4 Watering
Kitsun Rooby Penking Cold/Heat Immunity Mount ``

Passing Down Passive Skills and IVs

While the parent species determine the child species, their Passive Skills (such as Artisan, Work Slave, Runner, or Swift) have a high statistical chance of passing down to the egg.

  • Ideal Target: Aim for 4 complementary gold passive traits on a single offspring (e.g., Artisan + Work Slave + Serious + Lucky for work Pals).
  • Trait Dilution: Avoid breeding parents with negative red traits (like Clumsy or Glutton), as these can easily pollute the child’s skill pool.
  • Stat Inheritance: Individual Values (IVs) for HP, Attack, and Defense also pass down from parents, allowing you to selectively breed combat Pals for maximum base stats.

Once your egg finishes incubation, you can immediately assign your newly hatched Pal to work or keep breeding them to stack better passive traits.
