List of Active Skills

Palworld’s combat is built around your Pals, and understanding what each of them can do is absolutely important to survival and success. Active Skills are the core of their combat abilities – the attacks, traps, and support actions they use. This guide breaks down the different Active Skills you’ll find in the game, categorized by Pal type and highlighting some key considerations for utilizing them effectively. Don’t just grab any Pal; learn what they excel at!

Understanding Pal Active Skills

Active Skills aren’t just random attacks; they’re deeply tied to a Pal’s type and, to a lesser extent, its individual stats. A Fire-type Pal will generally favor Fire Skills, but that doesn’t mean it can’t learn Water or Earth attacks. This variety adds a layer of strategic depth – you’ll need to adapt your team composition to specific encounters. Keep in mind that some Pals have multiple Active Skills, and the specific ones they learn depend on their level, the items they’ve been fed, and occasionally, random chance. Experimentation is key to discovering the full potential of your Pals! Pay attention to the Skill Level – higher levels mean stronger attacks and potentially new effects.

Fire Pals: Blazing Offense

Fire Pals are undeniably powerful damage dealers, and their Active Skills reflect this. Flamethrower, obviously, is a staple for many Fire types, dealing consistent damage over time. Inferno is a devastating single-target attack, but it requires a significant energy cost. For more tactical approaches, consider Scorch, which applies a burning effect – perfect for chipping away at heavily armored enemies. Don’t underestimate the utility of Ember, a quick, low-cost attack that can interrupt enemy actions. Interestingly, even some Ice Pals can learn Fire skills through specific breeding or item feeding, showcasing the flexible nature of Pal abilities. Paladins, with their higher attack stats, generally benefit most from the raw damage output of Fire Skills.

Earth & Rock Pals: Defense and Control

Earth and Rock Pals often prioritize defensive and control-oriented Active Skills. Stone Shot is a reliable, low-cost projectile attack that’s good for harassing enemies. Earthquake is a powerful area-of-effect attack, capable of stunning enemies and dealing significant damage. However, it consumes a lot of energy. For more strategic play, consider Boulder Toss, which creates a temporary barrier that can absorb damage. Rock Smash is a slower, but more focused attack that deals high damage to a single target. Keep in mind that Earth Pals frequently have skills that can manipulate the terrain, creating pathways or hindering enemy movement – a valuable asset in challenging environments. Pal types with higher defense stats will naturally perform better with these defensive skills.

Water Pals: Wet and Wild

Water Pals excel at sustained damage and applying status effects. Water Gun is a basic, reliable attack, while Torrent unleashes a powerful, sweeping attack. Rain is a unique skill that increases the damage dealt by Water Pals and reduces the damage taken by others on your team – a fantastic support ability. Whirlpool creates a damaging vortex, pulling enemies closer and dealing continuous damage. For a more tactical approach, consider Ice Shard, which slows enemies and applies a chilling effect. Water Pals often have higher speed stats, making them ideal for quickly closing the distance and landing these attacks. Don’t overlook the defensive benefits of Rain – it can drastically improve your team’s survivability.

Flying Pals: Aerial Assault

Flying Pals bring a unique aerial perspective to combat. Dive is a quick, low-cost attack that’s excellent for harassing enemies and dodging attacks. Wing Attack is a more powerful aerial assault, dealing significant damage. Thunderbolt is a high-damage, single-target attack that’s particularly effective against armored enemies. Cloud is a supportive skill that increases the evasion of Flying Pals and their allies. Consider Gale Force for a wide-area attack that can knock enemies off ledges. Flying Pals generally have high speed and evasion stats, making them difficult to hit and allowing them to quickly reposition and use their aerial attacks. They are generally weaker in close-quarters combat.

Skill Progression and Pal Leveling

Active Skills aren’t static; they improve as your Pals level up. This means that a Skill Level 3 Flamethrower will always outperform a Skill Level 1 Flamethrower. Feeding your Pals specific items – often related to their type – can also boost Skill Levels. For example, feeding a Fire Pal a Fire Gem will increase the Skill Level of its Fire Skills. Experiment with different item combinations to maximize your Pals’ combat potential. Furthermore, certain Pals can learn skills from others through breeding, opening up new strategic possibilities. Building a well-rounded team with diverse Active Skills is key to overcoming Palworld’s toughest challenges.
